Homemade Bread
A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that allows for flexibility with the type of flour used.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups warm water (about 110 degrees)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons instant yeast
- 1/3 cup raw honey (or sugar)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (or oil), plus more for brushing
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- About 6 1/2-7 cups bread flour
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water with honey (or sugar). Let it sit until foamy, which indicates the yeast is active.
- Mix in softened butter, sea salt, and gradually add flour until the mixture forms a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf or loaves, and let it rise again.
- Bake in a preheated oven until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush with melted butter if desired and allow to cool before slicing.
